Safety
At Canadian Line Logistics, our core value is “Safety Comes First." This value is not just a slogan; it’s a fundamental principle that guides our entire team, from drivers to maintenance technicians and corporate staff. We understand the critical importance of safety in our daily operations, not only for our drivers and their families but also for our customers and the general public.
Safety is not just a buzzword; it’s a guiding principle in our everyday work and our long-term planning. We are committed to implementing and continually improving processes that uphold this obligation. Here are some examples of the actions we take to support our safety values:
-
Driver Selection: We have a rigorous driver selection process. Our drivers have outstanding driving and performance histories. They work closely with our safety teams to ensure they drive safely, provide excellent customer service to our clients, and return home safely to their families every day.
-
Vehicle Inspections: We prioritize vehicle safety through thorough inspections. All our trucks undergo comprehensive inspections to ensure they are safe before drivers start their journeys. While pre-trip and post-trip inspections are required by the DOT, we go the extra mile to guarantee that all inspections are thorough and accurately documented.
-
Distracted Driving: The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has identified distracted driving as the leading cause of accidents for truck drivers. Distracted driving encompasses any activity that diverts a driver’s attention from the road. This includes activities like eating while driving, gazing at billboards, and most commonly, cellphone usage, particularly texting while driving. To address this, our vehicles are equipped with dual-facing dash cams with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, such as Truckin dash cams. These cameras can identify when a driver is distracted based on their head position (e.g., looking down at their smartphone). This footage helps us coach drivers on how to correct their behavior, reduce distractions, and lower the risk of accidents.
-
Real-Time GPS Tracking: We employ a fleet management platform that provides real-time GPS tracking, which allows us to monitor the exact location of all our drivers at all times. Real-time GPS tracking is crucial for ensuring driver safety, especially during breakdowns or emergencies. If a vehicle experiences a breakdown, knowing its precise location enables us to provide prompt assistance to the driver. We can reroute them to the nearest repair shop, dispatch a maintenance crew, or arrange a tow truck immediately. This rapid response minimizes downtime and gets our fleet back on the road. Additionally, it ensures drivers are not left waiting for extended periods on the side of the road, reducing the risk of accidents.
-
Regular Maintenance: We recognize that driver safety begins with well-maintained vehicles. Trucks and tractor-trailers that receive regular maintenance, including oil changes and brake pad replacements, are less likely to experience breakdowns on the road. Our commitment to vehicle maintenance ensures the safety and reliability of our fleet.
